“The Tais is the traditional fabric of Timor-Leste, used as part of clothing. It is handcrafted by women on traditional wooden looms, made from cotton thread and then dyed with natural and synthetic dyes.
The patterns and motifs are originally traditional, in various colors, featuring interesting geometric designs, locally known as Kaif. They represent anthropomorphic figures with outstretched arms and hands, zoomorphic figures with various animals: crocodiles, birds, roosters, fish, and elements of nature, composed of leaves and plants.
The Tais play an important role in Timorese culture. They are used in ceremonies of homage, celebrations, and religious rituals that mark the various stages of an individual’s life: birth, marriage, and burial, in animistic rituals, social status, and also as an exchange of gifts among community members.”

From welcome receptions to farewells, the Tais has become, for me, a symbol of gratitude, inspiration, and new chapters.

Surrounded daily by my Tais, they remind me:
– Of the past. That led me to Timor-Leste.
– Of the present, being a symbol of focus and direction.
– Of the future, representing the path that will lead to the achievement of GiraCatavento’s goals.

Last but not least, they remind me of the importance of dreaming.
